CHANDIGARH: The residents of Sector 22 B have not been able to use their closest neighbourhood park for recreational purpose within the past few months due to the unkmept grass cover and infestation of varied insects.
The lack of regular mowing in the park has become an inconvenience for the residents and children alike, who find it difficult to play or tread on the grass carpet.
The park, which is centrally located and is surrounded by a row of houses on two sides, has now become surplus with dense undergrowth containing shrubs, grass blades, itchy plants and unruly shrubs, thus limiting its usage.
Speaking to TOI, Vishal, a student living in the neighbourhood said, “This park was not always like this. This has got out of control within the past four to five months. The growth of grass has also rapidly increased due to the recent rains and the approaching monsoon season. The care for the same has significantly reduced. The gardener does not visit the park frequently as required.”
Many residents complain about frogs, toads, grasshoppers, crickets, beetles and other insects infesting the grass, thus causing unease. “I like walking barefoot in grass in the evenings, but what if I get stung by something poisonous?”asked Vishnu, a frequent visitor to the park.
The three benches are the only option for sitting in the park, but even the area beneath them is slowly getting occupied with shrubs.
MC officials remained unavailable for comments.
